EXT4fs unstable.

Ext4 filesystem caused unstable operation and file corruption.

Trying out the new ext4 filesystem on Ubuntu Jaunty turned out to be a bad idea.

I installed Ubuntu using ext4 on the main drive. After a short while Ubuntu would not boot. Mounting the disk from a livecd revealed thousands of errors. Luckily no corruption of important files had occurred, but the locale had magically changed, and some programs had stopped working.

Some reports out there indicate that corruptions only occurs after power outage or hard reboot. Not the case here, the computer was cleanly shutdown each time. Also it should be able to run fsck.ext4, and not just fail to boot.

I’m back to ext3, and not switching to ext4 anytime soon.
